Over the years, Kickstarter has made a few things possible that wouldn’t have existed without crowdfunding. Or at least not in this form. This is where I collect the projects I’ve backed and written about.
Thimbleweed Park
Ron Gilbert, the mind behind Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island, crowdfunded Thimbleweed Park on Kickstarter to create a proper old-school point-and-click adventure. I backed it and even ended up in the in-game phone book and on the clown’s swear jar. A nostalgia trip that delivered.
Laurent Garnier: Off the Record
The documentary about Laurent Garnier was also funded through Kickstarter. It tells the story of a DJ who played a defining role in shaping electronic music in Europe. In hindsight, backing it was more than justified.
Lucas Levitan: Photo Invasion
Lucas Levitan draws little figures into other people’s Instagram photos and often gives them the twist they were missing. When he crowdfunded the whole thing as a printed book on Kickstarter, I backed it several times over. The result: three books and a double mention in the credits.
Spyslide
Taping over the webcam is old hat. The Spyslide by Spy-Fy is a more elegant solution: a small slider that covers the camera on laptops and smartphones. The Kickstarter campaign ran into quality issues and was delayed, but the end product is spot on.
This page will be updated as more backed projects come along.
