If you think deleting your browser history erases all traces, you need to change your religion. Downloads from Firefox and Safari are still stored in a log file on your computer. No matter how many times you clear your browser history. Want an example?
If you don’t want anyone poking around your history, you can view the list and, of course, delete it. This can be done conveniently in the terminal.
Show list
$ sqlite3 ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.QuarantineEventsV* 'select LSQuarantineDataURLString from LSQuarantineEvent'
Delete list
$ sqlite3 ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.QuarantineEventsV* 'delete from LSQuarantineEvent'
